Apple poaching experts from Samsung’s image, signal and battery divisions

Samsung and Apple are two of the most renowned tech companies in the world right now. Both require talents and we have seen them acquire a lot of interesting startups and companies to improve their talent base. While both these companies have been successful so far, Apple is way ahead of the South Korean giant when it comes to profits and the Cupertino Company already has a huge cash stock pile of around $170 billion.

The company is yet to decide what to do exactly with this cash pile, however, one thing it can do is offer existing employees improved salary and benefits packages as well as hire a number of talented employees to increase creativity and productivity. Looks like, Apple is doing the second thing right now, as a new report from South Korea states that the Cupertino Company has been poaching employees directly from Samsung.

It’s not surprising to see a company lure away employees from a rival, especially when it’s Samsung which has a lot of talented experts in different fields. The company is known for its chip and display technology. Now, Korean Media quotes several company insiders while stating that Apple has poached many experts from Samsung’s image and signal processing departments.

“Some of our personnel have been hired by Apple. They now work at Apple’s headquarters in San Jose, Calif.,” said an official, who further added that Apple offered highly-competitive benefits and large annual paychecks. “Those Samsung officials are given greater independence to proceed with their tasks. Apple prefers to use Samsung’s chip experts because they are very diligent, mission-oriented and are prepared to acquire new knowledge,” said another official from the company.

It is even said that employees from the company’s battery division have been taken. While Samsung is not a company known for its battery tech, it does have some interesting patents under its belt like a rollable and bendable battery and even a new polymer tech based one. Further, many different companies often rely on Samsung for fulfilling their battery needs. For example, Samsung SDI has contracts for making battery cells for BMW’s electric cars. Moreover, the same division just purchased Magna’s car battery pack business, which clearly shows the company’s interest in the field.

So, a possible poaching of experts from Samsung SDI could hint at Apple’s future plans. We recently came across reports which said that Apple had plans to develop its own electric vehicle and this newly acquired talent base would be perfect for such a plan.

Apple is yet to officially announce anything about an electric car in the making, but if it is true, then expect more information and leaks in the coming few months.
