Fans of Wendy’s Frosty will applaud at this bit of news. The frozen treat has been made available for unlimited consumption at just $2 for the entire 2017.
Customers who buy a $2 key tag at Wendy’s will be entitled to a Junior Frosty Treat with every purchase at the store and after presenting the said tag. Also, every 90 cents of a dollar spent will be awarded to non-profit Dave Thomas Foundation, which aims to assign home to foster children.
Customers can also get the tags at the non-profit’s website. The said organization was created by the founder of the fast-food chain. However, recent updates revealed that the site had run out of the said tags. The key tags can still be purchased at various Wendy’s branches, though.
The 2017 Key Tag campaign built on this year’s program, which only required $1 for the purchase of a Key Tag in order to be eligible for the free Frosty.
It’s also said that this promotion may still be successful despite the chain figuring in a data breach controversy in the earlier part of this year. The company had previously revealed that hackers had taken payment card information of customers in at least 1,000 branches in the United States.
The company investigated the said data breach in January after KrebsOnSecurity reported sources as saying that there was a fraudulent pattern detected on cards used at a couple of Wendy’s outlets.
“We’ve hired a cybersecurity firm and launched a comprehensive and active investigation that’s underway to try to determine the facts,” Wendy’s spokesperson Bob Bertini explained.
Then, in February, Wendy’s made an official confirmation of the said data breach. However, considering the 2017 key tag online selling did very well, it appears Wendy’s managed to regain customer confidence.
In other updates, the chain recently unveiled a new product in time for the holiday season – the Spicy Sriracha Chicken Sandwich.
The new product involves a chicken filet sandwiched by a “Sriracha-infused bun” and also includes “Sriracha aioli, Sriracha Jack cheese, and Applewood Smoked Bacon.”
However, Wendy’s doesn’t think the Sriracha fun ends there, as the sandwich could also be enjoyed with Bacon Sriracha Fries. The said offering will be made available in all locations in the United States for a limited time only starting December 5.
The Sriracha sandwich was inspired by the ubiquity of the Sriracha hot sauce, which has reached cult status among foodies.
