Of the top ten New Year’s resolutions, “lose weight” weighs in at No. 2 on the list with 32 percent of people making that their resolution for the New Year. This means people are on the lookout for some of the top diets of 2017.
No. 1 on the list of top ten New Year’s resolutions is “stay fit and healthy.” Although, losing weight was not No. 1, it does go hand in hand with No. 1. A new list of ranking from U.S. News & World Report offers a list of some of the best diets in 2017.
The Eco-Atkins diet is one of the diets with high markings on the list that consists of 38 different diets that have all been evaluated by a panel of doctors, nutritionists and other health professionals.
The Eco-Atkins diet is a plant-based Atkins-style diet. On the list, the diets are ranked in categories from “easiest diets to follow” to “best diets overall” to “fastest weight loss.” The Eco-Atkins diet falls into the “fastest weight-loss” category.
“It’s a plant-based spin on the Atkins diet. It calls for 31 percent of daily calories to come from plant proteins, 43 percent from plant fats and 26 percent from carbs,” said Angela Haupt assistant managing editor for health at U.S. News.
“Our experts say it’s superior to Atkins and good for fast weight loss, but it can be tough to follow, since guidance is scarce. You’re largely on your own, which can deter some dieters,” Haupt said.
The diet plan claims that dieters who follow the plan can lose 8 pounds a month. It also claims that dieters will improve blood levels of triglycerides, cholesterol levels and blood pressure while losing the weight.
According to the Atkins website, during a study, the “Eco-Atkins” group saw their LDL-cholesterol (the so-called “bad” cholesterol) drop significantly more than the group on the low-fat vegetarian diet.
The Eco-Atkins diet was developed by a nutrition scientist at the University of Toronto. It ranked No. 20 on the list of “Best Diets Overall,” out of 38 different diets.
The aim of the Eco-Atkins diet, according to U.S. News & World Report, is weight loss and heart health.
Other diets that made the cut were the MIND diet and the Ornish diet – which is ranked top for heart health.
The Ornish diet is also a plant-centered diet, that was developed by Dr. Dean Ornish.
