Jeep ramps up the Wrangler to give it a more rugged look

Jeep plans to make their rugged Wrangler, the most capable vehicle in the world, even more rugged with the new Rubicon Recon Edition. With the new upgrades, the Recon should be capable of taking on even tougher trails than before.

“With an array of beefed up off-road components, the new Rubicon Recon provides even more legendary Jeep Wrangler capability,” said Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand globally, in a statement. “With unmatched capability and a unique appearance, Rubicon Recon is the perfect Wrangler for our most loyal, diehard off-road enthusiasts who love to tackle the most demanding trails.”

The Rubicon Recon Edition of the Wrangler will feature a stronger front axle, better rock rails and heavier-duty plate over the differential.

“Rubicon Recon is the perfect Wrangler for our most loyal, diehard off-road enthusiasts who love to tackle the most demanding trails,” said Manley.

The model features a toughened exterior look thanks to the Low Gloss Black grille with Low Gloss Granite Crystal inserts and headlamp rings, Low Gloss Black off-road bumpers and Jeep badge with a red base. The steel front bumper also features a winch-capable design and removable end caps.

The Rubicon Recon Edition has added protection from the red tow hooks in front and back. This feature also helps separate this edition from the rest of the Jeep Wrangler lineup.

On the inside, the Wrangler Rubicon Recon Edition comes standard with an eight-speaker audio system. The interior also features black leather heated seats with a “Rubicon” embroidered logo and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red accent stitching.

To add to the detail and luxury of the interior, consumers will find black vinyl-wrapped front door armrest and console lid with black stitching, red accent netting on front and rear door pockets and the center console, and red accent-colored seatbelts. Another standard feature on this new model is a Premium Sunrider soft top, but a body-color hard top is also available.

Other new features include a half-inch lift, new 17-inch Low Gloss Granite Crystal-painted aluminum wheels wrapped in 32-inch BF Goodrich KM off-road tires, optional body-color fender flares and a dual-vented Power Dome hood with a black-silhouette “Rubicon” decal on both sides.

The new edition comes in seven different colors: Black, Bright White, Billet Silver, Firecracker Red, Gobi, Rhino and Granite Crystal.

The new model will arrive in showrooms later this month. The price for the two-door model of the 2017 Recon Edition will come in at $39,145, while the four-door Wrangler Unlimited model will be $42.945.
